Marc Lecuit, MD, PhD, is a microbiologist and infectious diseases physician. He is Director of the Biology of Infection Unit at Institut Pasteur and Inserm, and Head of the National Reference Centre and WHO Collaborating Centre for Listeria monocytogenes. He is Professor at Université Paris Cité and Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at Necker-Enfants Malades University Hospital, AP-HP. ML investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying microbial host specificity, host cell infection, barrier crossing, and systemic and tissue dissemination, as well as the host determinants of infection outcome. His laboratory focuses on pathogens responsible for mucosal, maternal-fetal, and central nervous system infections. His work has advanced the understanding of Listeria monocytogenes pathophysiology, from the molecular basis of intestinal and maternofetal barrier crossing to bacterial neuroinvasion and immune evasion. He has also contributed to the biology of emerging viral pathogens including chikungunya, Zika, and SARS-CoV-2. His research spans basic, translational, and clinical dimensions, encompassing national epidemiological surveillance of listeriosis and international collaborative projects within the Institut Pasteur network. ML is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization and of the Academia Europaea, a Fellow of the European Academy of Microbiology and of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, a Senior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France, and a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher.
